Over recent months, the Ulster Farmers’ Union has continued with efforts to speed up the eradication of Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) from Northern Ireland. Broadly speaking, efforts made by the industry have been very successful, and the total number of BVD positive animals alive has fallen from 1,244 in April 2018 to 557 in November 2019. Additionally, the number of herds containing a BVD positive animal has also fallen from 785 to 378 over the same period (see chart).
